Mancala is a game that has been played in Africa for many years and is considered one of the oldest games in the world. This board consists of 12 holes and 2 large cups to hold each players game pieces. The carvings on the board are rare and hold figurative significance. The boards bat-like shape reflects the importance of canoes to the Bidjogo community. The game of Mancala reflects the social vales of the society it originates from. The board may represent either the village or the universe, while the holes are referred to as "houses" or "villages". The game pieces are called "men", "wives" or "children" and are moved around the board.
